The 100 Coffee Challenge — Cape Town · Pass the Cup

Every coffee is a gift. Pass it on.

In Naples, people pay for a caffè sospeso, a “suspended coffee” left waiting for the next person who needs one. Ours works the same way: every coffee in the challenge is already paid for, by a sponsor or by someone who gifted a coffee. You bring an open hour.

  1. 1

    A coffee is waiting

Paid ahead by a sponsor, or gifted by someone in the community.

  2. 2

    One intentional hour

Solve a problem, make a connection, be real, pass on a referral.

  3. 3

    Pass the cup

Before you leave, introduce the next person who should get a coffee.

Coffee had, cup passed onWaiting for its coffee

A circle fills only when a real coffee has happened. Nothing on this board is made up.

Why it matters

One coffee. One conversation. One business that gets its start.

Behind every cup in this challenge is a person building something in Cape Town. Your gift goes to the Business Shower, to help one of our subscribers open the doors of their own business by 1 January 2027.

Part II

The Business Shower

The Business Shower

Help one subscriber start their own business.

Like a baby shower, but for a brand-new business. We're collecting gifts from the community to help one of our newsletter subscribers start their own business, and we'll hold the Business Shower by 1 January 2027.

The subscriber is nominated and chosen by the community.

Gifts can be money towards the new business, or something useful: equipment, a service, mentoring, a voucher. Message Dominique and we'll sort out the details together. The counter only shows gifts actually received.

Apply for the Business Shower

Have customers waiting? Let's help you open.

"We want to help, but a business with no customers is a dream without a plan." To apply you need an idea or a business, at least 10 people you've spoken to who are keen to be your clients, and some proof: their names and contacts, messages, pre-orders or a simple plan.

Applications are reviewed, and the recipient is nominated and chosen by the community, by 1 January 2027.

Your details and your 10 contacts are only used to review this application.

Part III

Book a coffee

Why join

Guests ask their host for everything. Let's know who to send them to.

Swap referrals

Find out what each of us does best, so we can send guests to people we actually trust.

Share guests

A guesthouse needs a driver, a tour needs a place to stay. One conversation can fill both.

Support local

When Cape Town businesses recommend each other, visitors get better tips and the money stays local.

How it works

One hour. Four ways to help.

It's more community than marketing. Two people, one coffee, one honest hour, and each of you leaves with something.

  1. Solve a problem

Bring one thing you're stuck on. Two heads, one hour, a clearer next step.

  2. Make a connection

Who do you need to meet? Introduce each other to the right people.

  3. Be real

No pitch and no sales talk. Honest words about what's hard and what's working.

  4. Pass on a referral

Send a guest, a client or a lead each other's way, and watch it come back around.

When a café sponsors the challenge, the coffee and a snack are on them, so the hour is free for both of you.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the 100 Coffee Challenge?

The Cape Town edition of the 100 Coffee Challenge: one intentional hour over coffee where two people help each other. Solve a problem, make a connection, be real, or pass on a referral. Andre & Dominique are doing it 100 times, for the good of Cape Town. Our goal is to help every business we meet reach one goal before the end of 2026.

What does 'Pass the Cup' mean?

Every coffee in the challenge is paid ahead, by a sponsor or by someone who gifted a coffee, like the suspended coffee (caffè sospeso) of Naples. At the end of your hour, you pass the cup: you introduce the next person who should get a coffee. Each coffee that really happens fills one circle on the Pass the Cup board, until all 100 are full.

Who can apply for the Business Shower?

Anyone with an idea or a business and at least 10 people they have spoken to who are keen to be their clients, with some proof: names and contacts, messages, pre-orders or a simple plan. Applications are reviewed and the recipient is nominated and chosen by the community. Apply in the Business Shower section above.

Who can join?

Anyone in Cape Town building something: business owners, hosts, guesthouses, tour operators, makers and freelancers. Book a coffee with Andre or Dominique on this page, or sign up to host one.

Does it cost anything to join?

Just WhatsApp Dominique and we'll talk you through it. Say hi with a few words about your place.

How does the coffee work?

Say hi on WhatsApp, pick a time, and we meet for a coffee or tea in Cape Town, at our sponsor café or somewhere near you. We talk about your guests, what they keep asking for, and how we can help each other. With your OK, you're added to the coffee log with a link to your website.

What is the Business Shower?
